Basics of testing
The examination at the end of a course is a central element of the curriculum. The aim of this seminar is to teach you the requirements associated with competence-oriented examinations. To this end, „constructive alignment“ is presented as a planning tool for successful interaction between the formulation of learning objectives, course planning and examinations. In addition, different types and forms of examinations and their specifics are taught. The risks, challenges and opportunities associated with artificial intelligence and examinations (from the perspective of both lecturers and students) will also be considered and experiments will be carried out with AI in the area of examinations during the course of the seminar. In addition to planning, various aspects, such as the criteria-oriented assessment of examinations and dealing with examination anxiety, must also be taken into account when conducting (new types of) examinations. In several discussions and work phases, you will exchange your previous experiences with the other participants and develop and discuss solutions for the development of competence-oriented examination(s) in an interactive process, possibly even with the involvement of AI.
After the workshop, participants will be able to
- understand the importance of testing in the context of university teaching,
- name different examination formats,
- make the connection between constructive alignment, learning outcomes and examination questions,
- use AI in the planning, implementation and assessment of examinations.
- develop your examination questions on the basis of this information.
This course is designed as a blended learning format. You first complete an online self-study phase in a moodle course room lasting approx. 1.5 hours. This is followed by a meeting in Zoom. The total workload of the course is 8 work units.
