AI in Higher Education: Integrating AI into Teaching (English)

Roughly two-thirds of students already use AI tools in their studies, probably more. Nevertheless, many of them do not exactly know how AI works, what the tools can do, and what not, what legal, or ethical boundaries must be kept in mind, how to prompt to get sensible results, or how to evaluate AI results so they can be responsibly used in academic contexts. What is more, using AI looks different in every field of study, and students often do not know how to deal with the tools adequately as they are usually no experts in their fields of study, yet.

In this workshop, participants get a roadmap of how they can support students in acquiring basic AI competencies relevant to the academic work in their field. We discuss how we set up manageable rules for the use of AI tools for our students; we learn useful teaching methods including AI; and we are discussing how we train our students to critically reflect their work with AI tools. We share best practices and discuss how to create a positive learning culture in which AI tools can be tested, openly discussed, and applied in an ethical way.
